Starting in the Fall of 2011, ROCKHARBOR began to seek God in terms of where and how to invest in local schools in our community. As we look at their current state, we find that this is a vast mission field that exists in our own backyards. There are significant challenges our schools face in the way of finances, teachers, academic performance, and overall character development. And there are countless opportunities for the Church to step in, show them Jesus, and help meet practical needs.
Why are we invested in our local schools?
- We want to see our schools develop students who are being adequately equipped with a variety of educational resources.
- We want to see students be given the same opportunities regardless of socioeconomic status and geographical location.
- Being invested in our local schools allows the opportunity for the church to reach out to our community in tangible ways and allows God’s love to be displayed.
How are we invested in our local schools?
There is a four-fold strategy that we are using to mobilize the ROCKHARBOR community toward our local schools:
- Community Projects
- Parent/Teacher Care
This is a town hall interest meeting for anyone attending RHO who is interested in a coming partnership between our church and Chapman University. Due to our location being directly across the street from Chapman University, we have an awesome opportunity to minister to the student population which is over 8,000 strong. RHO’s partnership with Chapman’s InterVarsity has been in the works for some time and will now be launching this year. We are asking if you would like to join in the fun. If you have ever thought about connecting with Chapman Students now is your chance. We would like to invite anyone who is interested to a short meeting after service to hear more about the opportunities coming for this next school year.

MENTORSHIPS AT ORANGE HIGH
We have the opportunity to build one-on-one impactful relationships with these high school students. Mentors meet with students to be positive influences and to come alongside students in whatever ways they need. Not only is this happening at Orange High School, but we’re also offering mentorships at El Modena High through a partnership with The Beacon Church. The mentorship training is on February 9th, at 6 PM, at the Lewis’ home. Mentoring will then begin on February 16th at Orange High School.
