Starting in the Fall of 2011, ROCKHARBOR began to seek God in terms of where and how to invest in local schools in our community. As we look at their current state, we find that this is a vast mission field that exists in our own backyards. There are significant challenges our schools face in the way of finances, teachers, academic performance, and overall character development. And there are countless opportunities for the Church to step in, show them Jesus, and help meet practical needs.
Why are we invested in our local schools?
- We want to see our schools develop students who are being adequately equipped with a variety of educational resources.
- We want to see students be given the same opportunities regardless of socioeconomic status and geographical location.
- Being invested in our local schools allows the opportunity for the church to reach out to our community in tangible ways and allows God’s love to be displayed.
How are we invested in our local schools?
There is a four-fold strategy that we are using to mobilize the ROCKHARBOR community toward our local schools:
- Community Projects
- Parent/Teacher Care
RHO has an ongoing partnership with Chapman University through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. We partner with students by hosting them in our homes for dinner, hosting study nights, partnering with life groups and even giving students rides to the grocery store. We believe that the best thing we have to offer as a church is relationship and personal investment.
If you are interested in participating please email Pastor Nick Kinnier.
MENTORSHIPS AT ORANGE HIGH
We have the opportunity to build one-on-one impactful relationships with the students at Orange high school. Mentors meet with students to listen, be positive influences and to come alongside students in whatever ways they need. We will be be bringing free lunch and mentoring to 25 at risk students at Orange High School. Mentoring will take place during the students lunch break.
Mentoring at Orange High School

MENTORSHIPS AT LAMPSON ELEMENTARY
RHO partners with Lampson Elementary in Orange to mentor 5th graders that will be transitioning to Jr. High. Mentors meet with the students once a week during the spring semester to discuss topics such as leadership, friendship, and bullying. Many parents and teachers have testified to the impact that the mentorship program makes on these kids, especially during such a potentially difficult transition period.
If you are interested in mentoring at Lampson please email Kaylee Wronski.
